Two years ago when hackers broke into the Heartland Payment Systems database they stole one hundred and thirty million credit and debit card numbers. The trail eventually led to a Miami man who confessed to authorities that he and several others were also responsible for the theft of another 40 million card numbers from a number of major companies.

The gruesome crime committed on board a passenger bus serves as a warning to all. The hideous beheading in the bus is an indication that video security cameras inside the vehicle could have alerted the bus driver and the other passengers that someone was fighting for his life.

In 1994, Legislation was passed which paved the way for the Violence Against Women Act. This Legislation provided $1.6 billion to enhance investigation and prosecution of the violent crimes perpetrated against women. However, the heinous crimes against women continue to increase each year. Preliminary results for the first half of 2006 revealed that there was a 3.7 percent increase in all violent crimes compared to the first half of 2005.

It now appears to be a weekly occurrence that a victim suffers an attack that all too commonly leads to death.

can’t get too excited about victimless crimes, that is to say crimes in which the only victim is the person committing it. Those who want to self-destruct – provided the consequences are not shouldered by others – have the right to do it. Everyone has the moral responsibility for their own person.
